Who is eligible to participate in the Expand-U program?
The program is open to any vendor wishing to do business with NYCPS. Participants are categorized into four levels (Foundational, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) based on their business experience, government contracting history, and organizational capacity. Each level has specific criteria outlined in the Participant Selection section of this syllabus.
Is there a cost to participate in the program?
The Expand-U program is offered at no cost to eligible businesses as part of NYCPS’s commitment to developing a diverse vendor base. However, participants are expected to commit the time and resources necessary to attend all scheduled sessions and complete any assigned work.
What is the time commitment required?
Classes are held three days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays in-person, Fridays virtually) for approximately 2 hours per session. The full program runs for several weeks, with specific courses recommended based on your business’s development level. Participants are expected to attend all sessions relevant to their business needs.
Do I need to be M/WBE certified to participate?
M/WBE certification is not required for Foundational or Beginner level participants. However, it is a requirement for businesses in the Intermediate and Advanced levels. If you’re not currently certified, the program includes courses on the certification process to help you obtain this valuable designation.
Will I be guaranteed contracts with NYCPS after completing the program?
Completion of the Expand-U program does not guarantee contract awards. However, the program equips you with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to compete more effectively for NYCPS contracts.
Can I select specific courses to attend, or must I complete the entire program?
While the program is designed to be comprehensive, we recognize that businesses have different needs. After the intake interview, a customized learning path will be recommended based on your specific situation. You’re encouraged to attend all recommended sessions, but may focus on those most relevant to your immediate business needs.
